Avastin and Blood Pressure Print E-mail
Share Share If you are being treated for wet macular degeneration with Avastin injections, you may want to talk to your doctor about blood pressure. A study in Turkey tracked 82 patients who were receiving Avastin for macular degeneration.   They were divided into two groups - those taking blood pressure medication and those with normal blood pressure.  Their blood pressures were measure the day of the injection and then at 1, 3 and 6 weeks after the injection.

The patients who were already taking medication for high blood pressure experienced a significant increase in blood pressure that was measured at each interval.  The group of patients with normal blood pressure showed an increase only at week 3.

The authors concluded that increases in blood pressure may be an issue for patients treated with Avastin, if they are already taking high blood pressure medication.
