VEGF-Trap-Eye Results for Wet AMD Print E-mail

Share Share Early results of an active Phase II clinical trial show promise in maintaining or improving vision in wet AMD.  The treatment, developed by Regeneron and called VEGF-Trap-Eye, is an injection into the eye.

Recent reports from the completed Phase II study at Harvard, showed significantly improved vision for 157 participants.  They gained an average of 5 letters of vision after three monthly treatments.  This amounts to about one line improvement on the vision chart.  For example, a patient may have gone from 20/80 to 20/60. Over 18 months, the subjects received three additional treatments (6 treatments in all).  The research is being conducted at other U.S. institutions, where participants also showed improvement.

Regeneron is still recruiting patients for the Phase III clinical trial.  There are almost 200 clinical trial locations throughout the U.S.

This study is for untreated eyes with wet macular degeneration. For more information: ClinicalTrials.gov or call Regeneron at 866-549-8439.
